Désolé, je ne parle pas très bien l'anglais, mais je suis sur que sur cette page, l'intégralité de l'encrage est bien de Luc Cornillon (sur crayonné de Chaland).

Si vous regardez bien les éléments du décors de la case 1, c'est évident.

(Chaland is only penciller on this page, and Cornillon the inker)

no! if you look with X-rays, there is still some pencil under the inking !

The Chinese part was the easiest I must say.
Anyway I checked the page after top and bottom layers so to speak and indeed the inking is on-top of the pencil lines (as one would expect I guess).

Great news; Geert is going to check with Luc Cornillon himself.

Hello. I would like to introduce myself. I am a new member and my name is Matt. I come from London and have followed Chaland since I first saw his work when Heavy metal serialised Elephant Cemetary in July 1985.

Every year I visit France (either Paris or Nice, or both), and with every visit I try and find a new treasure to take back to England.

I have most of the books. Only A Parisian on Vacation eludes me! I have many but not all in the Tirage a tete format. I also have many serigraphs framed and hung on my walls. I also have 3 statues and both the F-52 and Cauchemars portfolios.

These days I am mainly trying to find old fanzines and the occasional issue of Metal Hurlant.

Since looking at the ADF Journal, I know that I will have to try and find old issues of Astrapi!

Other European author /artists whose work I collect are: Serge Clerc/ Joost Swarte/ Ever Meulen/ Walter Minus/ Daniel Torres/ Javier Mariscal.

My favourite author artists from United Kingdom/ USA/ Canada are: Darwyn Cooke/ Mike Allred/ Bruce Timm/ Geof Darrow/ Mike Mignola/ Jamie Hewlett/ Rian Hughes/ Will Eisner/ Alex Toth/ Jack Kirby/ Wallace Wood, etc etc. There are many more!

My favourite artist of all though is Yves Chaland and has been for over 20 years!

Anyway, I thought it would be nice to say hello.

Thank you Alban. Nice to meet you. I forgot to mention other artists I like very much include Antonio Lapone, Alpha Max, Ted Benoit and Dupuy-Berberian. All in the Clear Line tradition!

I also have a lot of Moebius and all of Franquin's Spirou books as well as Spirou books by other artists including Rob-Vel and Jije.

I have 2 questions that someone might be able to answer?

I have an old fanzine from 1984, Sapristi No. 4.

The reason I bought it is because of an interview and rare drawings by Serge Clerc.

The cover and many illustrations inside are by F. Isard. They are very nice and very much like Chaland, also a bit like Alpha Max.

I don't know of anything else by this artist. Does anyone else?


Also I can't work out how to get my blog image to appear with my name. Can anyone advise me?

about your blog image : it's easy, you see up on the page the Jumping Red ryder ? just under is a line, you go on "profil", then ,up on this new page you go on "avatar" and here you "choose le fichier", you select your best image of yourself and to finish you make "enregistrer" !

I have most of Chaland's comics in French, but not all!

No 'Lo Parisianc en vacancas' pour moi!

Very little of Chaland's work has been available in English. The exceptions being some stories in 1980s issues of Heavy Metal, The final Young Albert story published in Metal Hurlant issue 1 (USA version), Chaland by Champaka and the first 2 Chaland anthologies containing the 5 Freddy Lombard stories.

So once again, Really nice to read some more in English!

I few months ago I had an email (thank you Pierre) letting me know about this forum. I see there has not been an update in the English language section for a bit, I but wanted to say hello anyway.

I live in the south of England (West Sussex) and have been a fan of Yves Chaland since seeing his work in Heavy Metal magazine in the 1980s. I am a writer and illustrator myself (The Rainbow Orchid, published in the UK by Egmont) and Yves Chaland remains a vital mixture of inspiration and wanting to give up because I'll never be as sublime and him! (But mostly inspiration, thankfully).

Thanks for this English language section - sorry I'm so useless at speaking French :-(

Heavy Metal in the 80s was also what alerted me to Yves Chaland. I was already aware of Serge Clerc through the NME and Rian Hughes via Escape Magazine. I am a HUGE fan of Chaland and the Clear Line. I also enjoyed Rainbow Orchid volume 1 very much and look forward to book 2!
